Quiet streets are streets for children

We live in a street in Assen which is very close to the ring-road, but due to low speed limit on the ring-road and the noise barrier, we don't hear the traffic on it so that traffic does not affect our lives. Even when cars crash on the ring road this is so quiet that we don't notice. In other countries, the road would almost certainly seem threatening and unpleasant, but we experience it as if it's not there at all.

This part of the reason why children can play on the street.


Naturally, there is also no through traffic on our street. That applies to almost all Dutch residential streets.
