Gapminder chart

I was playing around with Gapminder and came up with this plot. Traffic mortality children 0-14 (per 100,000 people) vs time

I never realised how bad it was in the Netherlands in the 1970s. That must have been a big factor for kickstarting 'stop de kindermoord'. And how in 10 years mortality rates fell so quickly.

That's a great find. Thank you. You can certainly see why Stop de Kindermoord became a huge campaigning issue.

It wasn't unusual for British children to cycle to school in the early 1970s, but the Dutch were already doing it more. Now of course the difference between the two nations is larger because Dutch riding has increased while British riding has decreased. For the two nations to have comparable figures with the different exposure is remarkable. I wrote a little about this five years ago.
